The result "BigHoops" the first social competition based on basketball. The trick is our skills-based approach. No need to be a diehard player to have fun.

Paul Brown, Mgt 08, is a sports guy. “When we have Thanksgiving and Christmas, I’ll set up the croquet in the yard for family and friends,” he says. “I like something to do while we’re hanging out. It creates a second dimension beyond eating and drinking.” Brown, who worked in consulting and finance for 14 years, is combining his expertise and love of good-natured rivalry in his first entrepreneurial venture, BigHoops.

Our Story

The BigHoops story captures the ambition of basketball enthusiasts everywhere. Driven by a "never quit" attitude and extensive expertise in business, product design, coding, and the restaurant industry, the team is introducing an entirely new basketball experience to the world!

The journey began with the realization that there were not enough truly competitive yet casual entertainment dining options available. Basketball hasn't become a larger social experience primarily due to the strength, dedication, and time commitment required to maintain skills. BigHoops addresses this with its proprietary entertainment machines that move full-size basketball goals up, down, side to side, back and forth, and even switch between multiple rim sizes. This variability automatically adapts to players' individual skill levels, ensuring that no one is left out when skilled players are on the court. At BigHoops, everyone gets to play, has a chance to win, and enjoys a great time with friends and family.

BigHoops was founded out of a passion for the sport and deep industry experience. CEO Paul Brown brings a background in finance and a track record of collaborating with investors, including during his consulting career with Topgolf. He recognized that when you create a proprietary game that boosts participation in a top 5 sport, it transcends being just a restaurant—it's big business. Paul's brother Dan complements this with extensive experience in managing coding teams to meet complex business needs. Together, they have transformed BigHoops from a patented prototype into a fully immersive fan experience. As we prepare for nationwide expansion, our team continues to grow in both size and capability.
